Vero Beach’s largest employers include the School District of Indian River County, the Indian River Medical Center, Publix grocery stores, Indian River County government, Piper Aircraft and Wal-Mart.

The Indian River Lagoon runs between the barrier island and the mainland. It’s the most biodiverse in the northern hemisphere with 3,000-plus animal and plant species. You can meet many of them with a guided kayak tour.

Downtown Vero offers unique shops and restaurants as well as free events, some with live music, including Downtown Friday and the First Friday Gallery Stroll.

A haven of arts and culture, Vero Beach features the Riverside Theatre, the largest professional Actor’s Equity theatre. Onsite are also great stand-up acts at the Comedy Zone as well as “Howl at the Moon” dueling piano shows. Across the street you’ll find the Vero Beach Museum of Art, the nation’s largest privately funded art museum.
